SWEGOP Urges Buhari To Overhaul Security Architecture

The South West Group of online Publishers (SWEGOP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to step up his game on security in the country, and especially in southern Kaduna and North East region.

The association made the call at a special luncheon in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Friday.

The group comprises online newspaper publishers in Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states.

Addressing guests at the luncheon which had an integrated marketing communication guru, Mr Abisoye Fagade and an experiential marketer Mr Abiodun Oshinibosi as special guests, SWEGOP chairman Mr Olayinka Agboola, expressed the worry of the group on the deteriorating security situation in the country, especially in southern Kaduna and across North East Nigeria.

Agboola said SWEGOP would love Buhari to rethink his security strategies in ending killings and guaranteeing safety of lives and property of Nigerians in all corners of the country.

Agboola said: “I am using this opportunity to implore all of us to use everything at our disposal to continue to remind the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to do more than the usual and overhaul the country’s security architecture.

“We must talk about it everytime, we should go to our different Houses of Assembly to lobby our lawmakers there to discuss it and offer practicable solutions. Aabo ara eni, ni aabo ilu. We cannot say Kaduna State is far, or Borno State is not near and thus, pretend not to be concerned. Nobody knows whose turn it will be tomorrow. Let us take the issue of insecurity more seriously. The assignment is not only for the government, we must be on our guards at all times.”

Fagade commended SWEGOP, stressing that its objective of sanitising online publishing and bringing credibility to the business was a perfect fit for this time. He described it as a step in the right direction.

As businessmen and women, Fagade advised members to keep working at it, assuring that the future is bright in view of the fact that digital technology holds the ace now and for the future.
