Serial Killer: Oyo NANS Issue 72-hour Ultimatum To Police Over Shodipe’s Escape

The National Association of Nigeria Students, Oyo state JCC, on Monday issued 72-hour ultimatum to the state police command over the escape of the prime suspect in the Akinyele killings, Mr Sunday Shodipe.

In a statement issued by its chairman secretary, Com. Opakunle Oluwafunmibi Mayowa and Amoo Roqeeb, the student body said the Commissioner of Police has some questions to answer.

The statement below:

Position Statement On Barakat’s Murder Suspect Escape:

The Commissioner of Police Has Got Questions To Answer.

While still mourning the death of our colleague and sister who was raped and murdered, it was gathered that her suspected rapist and murderer who was arrested, detained, charged and remanded has now escaped from the custody of the Nigerian Police Force.

Of many questions are, what is the culprit who has confessed to several killings still doing in the custody of the Nigerian Police rather than being arraigned and justice served? What facilities were used in holding down such a one for him to have escaped?

It’s disgusting to hear the Commissioner of Police through the P.R.O report back to the community that one of those they were assigned to protect us from, and mete justice to is now at large. The suspect was said to have escaped since 11/08/20(Tuesday) and the Police Force deem it fit to report the escape on 16/08/20(Sunday).

This speaks so loud on either the competency of the Police and their facilities or the transparency in their dealings; but either ways, it is evident that this law enforcement agency cannot be trusted with our lives and properties.

We frown at injustice, and request that the Commissioner of Police tender his resignation if it be that he’s no longer capable of the position to protect lives in this state.

We the National Association of Nigerian Students can’t fold hands to watch our own being victims of injustice, and open to dangers of recurring situations; we hereby give the Nigerian Police, Oyo State Command, a 2-days ultimatum to provide the escaped culprit, else be ready to face whatever actions we take in the fight for our own.

*Ultimatum ends in 72hrs from the time of release.*
