JUST IN: Makinde Downplays Second Wave Of COVID-19, Says Oyo Will Contact Vaccine Manufacturer

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has downplayed the second wave of coronavirus as confirmed cases continue to spike.

This is coming as the state recorded more than 400 confirmed cases in two weeks, according to InsideOyo. Com’s analysis of daily figure from the Nigeria Centre For Diseases Control (NCDC).
In a press briefing on Wednesday at the government house, the governor disclosed that based on credible facts and verifiable data there were no evidences of COVID-19 second wave in the state.

He noted that with the recent report he got from the experts managing the virus in Oyo state, the second wave of the pandemic is not valid in the pacesetter state.

Despite the claims, Governor Makinde, however, stressed that adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols must be strictly complied with as government would not relent in its funding and synergy with health institutions in the continuing effort to reduce further spread of COVID-19 in the state
While reeling out data on numbers of COVID-19 test already conducted by the state, numbers of positive cases and recoveries, Governor Makinde explained that though the federal government had promised to distribute about 100,000 vaccines across states with Oyo state getting about 1,800 vaccines, the state would consider contacting a COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing company to get sufficient quantity for the state.

He stressed that the government will explore other means of getting AstraZeneca vaccines that are suitable for Oyo state due to storage instruction.
The governor also disclosed that the state government has tested 34, 000 persons since the outbreak of the virus in Oyo state, revealed that an MoU has been signed with a private health facility to provide oxygen for the use of those with critical complications occasioned by the dreaded virus.
